I use essential oils for everything…including my skin! But even at 32 years old I feel like I’m still figuring my skin out. First, there was young adulthood, then there was pregnancy-skin, post-pregnancy skin, skin that changed with hormones (check out my class on that here), and now, I’m finally admitting to myself that my skin might be **gasp** aging.
I used to have very, very oily skin growing up, but now, my skin tends to be on the drier side. So I was wondering what oils would be best for my skin? Don’t worry, I have lists for both dry/aging skin and oily skin!
After I found out about how harsh skin cleansers can be I stopped using them completely and only used carrier oils and essential oils to clean my face. It seems counter-intuitive but it works!
How I wash my face with oil:
BUT a few months after I joined doTERRA I started using some of their skincare products! These are my three favorites:

So I’ll use these products, but I still wash my face with oil most days–I feel like it helps me get a deeper clean! Here’s an easy way to customize an oil blend for yourself using the oils below:
Essential oils for oily skin
Put a combo of three to four oils in a carrier oil like sunflower, sweet almond, or coconut oil:
- Palmarosa
- Patchouli
- Lavender
- Tea tree
- Geranium
- Ylang ylang
- Clary sage
- Sandalwood
- Vetiver
- Frankincense
- Cedarwood
- Juniper berry
- Petitgrain
- Rosemary
- Cypress
- Lime**
- Grapefruit**
- Orange**
- Tangerine**
- Lemon**
** remember that SUN + CITRUS don’t mix. Don’t put citrus oils on your skin if you’ll be out in the sun!

These oils are also great for breakouts!
Oils for dry + aging skin
Put a combo of three to four oils in a carrier oil like kukui, shea nut butter (I use this before bed), shea nut oil, avocado, sweet almond, or sunflower:
- Palmarosa
- Rose
- Neroli
- Jasmine
- Geranium
- Carrot seed
- Fennel
- Yarrow
- Frankincense
- Celery seed
- Sandalwood

Some of my favorite plant potion combos are:
* palmarosa + sandalwood
* jasmine + yarrow
* frankincense + rose
